Rebellion Of Thieves

Rebellion Of Thieves by Kekla Magoon, 246 pages
“Robyn Loxley plans to seize the opportunity to rescue her parents from the governor's mansion by competing in the Iron Teen contest, although success could bring unwanted attention from Crown.” This series is my favorite by Magoon.  I’ve liked her other books but these have a sense of adventure that is missing some of the hopelessness that I feel when reading her historical fiction.  This follows the Robin Hood stories well and it’s really enjoyable.  Kids who like adventure or just Robin Hood will want to read it.

Library of Souls

Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
458 Pages

The third and final book of the Peculiar Children has our heroes tracking down their missing friends and facing the foes who kidnapped them.  Everything is wrapped up in this book and readers will be happy that the book is a more solid entry than its predecessor.

Tell Me

Tell Me by Joan Bauer, 260 pages

Anna is going to visit her grandmother while her parents try to work out their differences.  Although Anna is sad to be away from home where she could be acting as a cranberry all summer, and is worried that her parents might be getting a divorce, she is glad to be visiting her grandmother, especially since the Flower Festival is coming up.  Anna is looking forward to working on the floats and even has a chance to pursue her acting by being a petunia to advertise the festival.  However, Anna sees a girl that looks like she’s in trouble.  Anna doesn’t know exactly what’s wrong, but the girl clearly doesn’t want to be with the two people who have her in a van.  Anna is determined to help but when the local police don’t seem to care, Anna has to devise other plans to try and aid the girl she saw.  Luckily, Anna has made some friends who may be able to assist.  This is a kind of simplistic story but it’s still pretty good.  Give this to kids who like realistic fiction with a little bit of humor and adventure.
