Open Your Eyes

Open Your Eyes by Paula Daly  340 pages

"Jane doesn’t like confrontation. Given the choice, she'd prefer to focus on what’s going well, the good things in life.

But when her husband, Leon, is brutally attacked in the driveway of their home, in front of their two young children, Jane has to face reality. As he lies in a coma, Jane must open her eyes to the problems in her life, and the secrets that have been kept from her, if she’s to find out who hurt her husband – and why.

Maybe it’s time to face up to it all. Who knows what you might find . . ."   summary courtesy of Goodreads

I didn't think I could write a better summary, especially since that description was partly what drew me to this book.

I whipped my way through this book -- it has layer upon layer of plot, and kept me guessing until the big reveal. Part of what I liked was the interplay between Jane and Leon, especially after Leon's attack.  A bit of a spoiler: Leon comes out of the coma, but has some brain issues.  Dealing with that, on top of being terrified that whoever attacked Leon will come after her and the children, Jane is at her wits' end. You get a real sense of just how stressed Jane is, which made reading this pretty compelling. You have a mystery here, but there's also the relationship between Jane and Leon, the wondering if Leon will ever completely recover, the wonder about how much danger Jane is in (and is she a suspect?!?) ---- lots here in a fast-paced psychological suspense story.
