This is the second book of the series and it continues to tell a story of a world where humans live an uneasy existence with the terra indigene, a group of supernatural creatures including vampires, werewolves and elementals.  Don't expect the sparkly vampires of the Twilight series.  Not only will the vampires kill you but human meat is a delicacy among the terra indigene. 

Meg Corbyn has integrated into the terra indigene society and this books explores her abilities as a cassandra sangue and the prophecies that follow.

The tension between humans and terra indigenes worsens as two addictive drugs are being used to spark violence between the humans and the Others.  It turns out that the drugs are being manufactuered with the blood of cassandra sangue  and the Others and their allies must find a way to shut down production and save the other prophets. 

This was a solid follow-up to the first novel of the series Written in Red and goes by quickly.
