Seeds of the Word

Cover image for Seeds of the Word: Finding God in the Culture by Robert Barron, 275 pages

This collection of blog posts from Fr Barron's Word on Fire blog, covering everything from the spiritual significance of teen vampires to the moral roots of the baseball steroid scandal to the proper ends of dialogue.  Throughout, he has the audacity to believe that Catholicism still has something to offer, and that a Christ-haunted world is still interested, even despite itself.

Fr Barron's analyses are never simplistic - to the contrary, his goal always seems to be to see beneath the obvious and superficial - but this collection does suffer from the shortcomings of the form - again and again, the reader is left wanting more.  As conversation starters, the entries shine, but in themselves they fail to fully satisfy.
