Raymie Nightingale

Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo, 263 pages

Raymie makes friends with two other girls in her baton twirling class.  Louisiana is a timid but determined girl while Beverly is stubborn but loyal.  The three make an unlikely trio but they all help each other with their various problems.  Raymie wants to win the Little Miss Central Florida Tire competition so that her father will come home.  Louisiana wants to win because she needs the prize money so she won’t have to go into the orphanage.  Beverly wants to sabotage the contest.  This is definitely one of my favorite DiCamillo books and I will be giving it to every child who comes to the Library asking for realistic fiction.
