Maybe my disappointment in this book is more extreme because my expectations about the premise simply didn’t materialize. I don’t tend to shy away from black comedy, but I had been hoping for a fun caper about art fraud. Instead, I was drawn into the downward spiral of drug deals gone bad, gratuitous violence and senseless homicide, and exposure to characters simply incapable of staying clear of those wrong left turns. While I often root for the bad guy, this black story might better appeal to those who are drawn to exaggerated train wrecks and excruciating amoral self-sabotage. I just wasn’t in the mood...
