This book is part of a series about a mage diviner called Alex Versus.  In this novel Versus must comes to grips with his past as an apprentice of a Dark Mage as a group of vigilantes come after him to punish him for past crimes.  He must determine what parts of his past to accept and what parts to deny.

This is an enjoyable urban fantasy series with Jacka continuing to grow and develop this fantasy London.  Often suggested as an alternative for fans of Butcher's Harry Dresden series.
