Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, 288 pages

Imagine knowing your life has only one purpose: organ donation. Such is life for Kathy and her friends Tommy and Ruth. Their younger years are spent in Hailsham, a boarding school run by "guardians". They find out little by little what their purpose in life is, and are surprisingly okay with this idea. They fantasize about how they wish their life could be, but it won't happen. Once they are finished with boarding school, they move on to the Cottages, until the time for their training to be carers. The final stop is donations. Some people only make it through one or two donations before they "complete".
This book is told by Kathy and begins with her as a carer. Her story proceeds in loops as each prior memory she recalls reminds her of another.
This was one of those books that while I didn't necessarily dislike it, after I finished it I was left feeling a little empty.
