Part of a series of books about Eddie Lacrosse, sell sword, this latest installment has Eddie failing to save a man from a bear but bening entrusted with the baby the man was carrying. Leaving the infant girl in a sheep herding village Eddie goes about his lift for 16 years, until his vacation brings him back to the area. Curious about what happened to the baby, Eddie finds himself embroiled in a plot involving Kings and Sorceresses and must save the girl Isidora.
Fans of Jim Butcher and Simon R Green will be at home in this series with a wise ass hero with a ready quip. Very nicely written escapist fiction.
