A Darker Shade Of Magic

A Darker Shade Of Magic by V.E. Schwab, 400 pages

Kell is one of only two people who has the ability to move between worlds.  There are four worlds that all contain a city called London.  Kell calls his home Red London, the world without magic is Grey London, Black London was sealed off years ago as too dangerous and White London stands between Red and Black and grows more dangerous every year.  Kell has a bad habit of illegally transporting trinkets between the worlds.  When someone asks him to deliver a message and hands him a small package as payment, Kell crosses worlds, only to find that the message is a ruse and the payment is a rock from Black London that contains wild, dangerous magic.  This rock has the power to destroy all he holds dear and there are people who want to recover it who will stop at nothing to get it.  With the help of a woman from Grey London, Lila, Kell must find a way to stop his pursuers and return the rock to Black London, and stay alive.  This was a terrific fantasy story that I would highly recommend.
