Seize The Storm

Seize The Storm by Michael Cadnum, 233 pages

Told from different points of view, this is short psychological thriller that falls a little flat.  Jeremy, with Elwood and Shako is off to retrieve some money for his father.  Jeremy’s father is involved with some shady dealings and a boat that they know made its delivery but didn’t return with the cash is now dead on the water.  Jeremy is in a helicopter looking for it.  Another boat, containing cousins Martin and Susanna, Susannah’s parents, Leonard and Claudette, and another crew member named Axel is in the water nearby searching for salvage.  Of course, we as readers know that an encounter is inevitable and that it can’t possibly have good results.  The problem is that the book doesn’t build enough emotion and I thought the ending was a little anti-climactic.  It’s not horrible and some teens will maybe still enjoy it but teens that are really looking for a good scare will probably be disappointed.
