The Lord

The Lord by Romano Guardini, translated by Elinor Castendyk Briefs, 629 pages

In The Lord, noted twentieth century theologian Romano Guardini conducts a personal examination of the life of Christ as reported in the Gospels.  Throughout he finds that the person of Christ cannot be explained in terms of historical or psychological analysis - though incarnate in time, Christ is rooted in eternity, though fully human, He is also fully divine, in Him transcendence has become immanent.  For Guardini, the life of Christ is not a mere record of past events, nor even anything fully graspable by human understanding, but an ongoing call to conversion and imitation, memorialized and continued in the life of the Church.

A tremendous gift from a great thinker.
