Deception's Princess by Esther Friesner, 324 pages
Maeve is the youngest child of the High King, who has all
daughters. She is also his favorite. Maeve has always been spirited
and her father admires that but also wants to keep her protected. Maeve
fights against her father's overprotection, but her father, as king, almost
always gets his way. Maeve needs to find a way to be her own person
without damaging her or her father's reputation and hopefully, keeping their
relationship intact. This was pretty typical of Friesner's books.
Although her princesses are not real people, the historical parts of the
stories are true to the times, for the most part and her heroines are always
strong female characters. These are good reads for teens who like this
type of book.
