Hungry by H.A. Swain, 372 pages
There is no food left in the world and scientists have
developed a synthetic alternative to supply nutrition to people. Thalia’s mother is one of those scientists
and so her family is very privileged in her society. But for some reason, Thalia has been
experiencing hunger, something that isn’t supposed to happen with the nutrition
drink. During the course of trying to
remedy Thalia’s problem, she becomes aware of other problems in society, like
the fact that many people aren’t getting the nutrition they need to survive
because they were born illegally.
Thalia, along with her new friend Basil, is trying to help stop the way
the current government works, but the government is trying to stop her as
well. This is a really good futuristic
dystopian novel. Although not as
exciting as Hunger Games or Divergent, teen fans of this genre will probably
enjoy it.
