The Things You Kiss Goodbye by Leslie Connor, 358 pages
Bettina's father is incredibly strict and Bettina obeys his rules
some of the time. She does sneak out of the house sometimes and wears
makeup and different clothes that she changes into once she gets to school but
she comes home by her curfew and helps out with all of her chores. Near
the end of her sophomore year, Bettina meets Brady, who wants to go out with
her, and even though she's not supposed to date until she's sixteen, her father
approves of Brady and lets her go out with him. Their relationship over
the summer is perfect but when the school year starts again, Brady gets moody
and sometimes teases her in a mean way, even injuring her sometimes.
Bettina isn't sure what to think, especially after she meets a man she calls
Cowboy. He helps her, listens to her, and she thinks she might be falling
in love with him. Cowboy is too old for her and her father wouldn't
approve, and she still loves Brady, or does she? I really liked this book
and think that a lot of teen girls would love it, and I have to say that I was
surprised by the ending.
