OkayFor Now by Gary D. Schmidt, 360 pages
"As a fourteen-year-old who just moved to a new
town, with no friends, an abusive father, and a louse for an older brother,
Doug Swieteck has all the stats stacked against him until he finds an ally in
Lil Spicer--a fiery young lady. Together, they find a safe haven in the local
library, inspiration in learning about the plates of John James Audubon's
birds, and a hilarious adventure on a Broadway stage." I read this for the first
time the year that it came out. I re-read it recently and I think I liked
it more the second time around. I had only rated it 3 stars on Goodreads
and I changed it to 4 after this time. Definitely a good novel for teens
who like realistic "problem" novels. I read this one in the
ebook version because no hard copies were available.
