As You Wish by Cary Elwes Audio Book: 7 hours, 3 minutes Hardback Book: 272 pages
A fun read. If you are a fan of the film, The Princess Bride, you will enjoy learning some behind the scenes info on the cast, the crew, the screen writer, the director, the producer and what a perfect blend they all made that became the wonderful result that is this timeless classic. The story is based on the love, loss and love again of Princess Buttercup and Westley the stable boy who while trying to make his way in the world so that he may marry (then) Buttercup, his path leads him to becoming the Dread Pirate Roberts then a hero. Loads of fanciful things happen in between with a Sicillian cynic, a giant, a swashbuckling Spanish swordsmen, Buttercup gets swooped up by the local Prince to become his wife, hence the Princess Bride, there are sword fights, all sorts of adventures, even gargantuan rats and a fire swamp! YIKES! All suffered and endured for TRUE LOVE. Cary gives great insight into the people behind the characters, the family that is built when an ensemble cast live and work together on a film and divulges many things that happened on and off set that are also the stuff of legends. Cary shares so many things in this book that I can’t wait to watch the film again so that I can look for the nuggets he talks about. His book has also inspired me to read the original story by William Goldman a.k.a. S. Morgenstern who asked his daughters what kind of story would they like him to write for them? One said a story about a Princess! The other daughter said a story about a Bride! There was born, The Princess Bride. What a great Dad! Very pleasing read. Cary Elwes is as dashing in his words as he is to watch on screen. 5 out of 5 stars for how Cary Elwes leaves the reader feeling a part of the experience.
