Against the Tide

Against the Tide by John Ringo, 550 pages

This is the third book in the Council Wars series. I have really enjoyed reading this series so far. Despite being mainly good vs evil, it never sinks to the point where the good always win. Granted that is what tends to happen at the end of series and books but in this one there are some major setbacks.

Despite being three books into the series, overall nothing or true consequence has really happened. Not that there hasn’t been action, just action and counteraction. Both sides are still in control of pretty much what they started with. Against the Tide does brings in a host of new characters, some of which are very unique physically. For an example see the cover art.  There is also the introduction of a true aerial element to the battles.

I very much like this series and despite wanting to mix in other books, I feel myself being drawn back to it time and time again. 

Teeth

This is a story about an island where you can get fish that have healing properties.  Not very many people know about this island.  The people there try to keep it kind of secret on purpose, because if too many people find out about it there won’t be enough fish to cure the people that are already there.  Rudy’s family has come because his little brother, Dylan, has cystic fibrosis, and the fish is helping him.  He’s getting stronger, more able to breathe, every day.  Although he’s glad that Dylan is getting better, Rudy hates the island.  There aren’t any teens and none of his friends have kept in touch.  However, one day Rudy finally meets someone his age.  The problem is, this boy has a tail and lives in the ocean.  This is not any kind of typical mermaid story.  This is a realistic, tragic kind of story, despite the fantastical quality.  Teens who like bizarre, kind off the wall type fantasy stories, might like this book.
