This is a story about an island where you can get fish that
have healing properties. Not very many
people know about this island. The
people there try to keep it kind of secret on purpose, because if too many
people find out about it there won’t be enough fish to cure the people that are
already there. Rudy’s family has come
because his little brother, Dylan, has cystic fibrosis, and the fish is helping
him. He’s getting stronger, more able to
breathe, every day. Although he’s glad
that Dylan is getting better, Rudy hates the island. There aren’t any teens and none of his
friends have kept in touch. However, one
day Rudy finally meets someone his age.
The problem is, this boy has a tail and lives in the ocean. This is not any kind of typical mermaid
story. This is a realistic, tragic kind
of story, despite the fantastical quality.
Teens who like bizarre, kind off the wall type fantasy stories, might
like this book.
