W.A.R.P. The Reluctant Assassin by Eoin Colfer 341 pages
This is book one in what promises to be an exciting new series. Chevron is a 17 year old FBI agent, part of a pilot group of specially trained teens whose goal was only supposed to be reconnaissance. However, Chevie got caught up in slightly more than that, and as a consequence was shipped off to a London safe house to babysit a big metal pod. Agent Orange, her supervisor there, tells her that they are waiting for someone to come out of the pod. Unfortunately, when the someone comes, he’s dead, and has a young teen in tow. Riley, who lives in Victorian times, had snuck into the man’s house, charged with killing him. Riley found he couldn’t do it, but his guardian and master forced his hand. Literally, forced his hand, holding a knife, into the man’s chest. Now Riley and Chevie and are on the run from Riley’s master, Garrick, who found a way to follow Riley through the time portal, because that was what the pod was, of course and they need to find a way to stop Garrick from killing them at the same time protecting the time portal technology. This was a fast-paced fun book that teen science fiction/fantasy fans will probably like.
