The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, 198 pages
A little girl from Kansas gets swept away by a tornado and deposited in the technicolor land of talking animals, witches, wizards, and a yellow brick road. Really, who doesn't know this story? But the book is quite different from the 1939 movie (those shoes are silver, not ruby red!), which is something to keep in mind when reading this book. However, I read this with my son, who has not seen the movie, and it was a wonderful experience, introducing him to the adventures Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Lion. The story holds up remarkably well after 114 years!
