A Plague of Unicorns by Jane Yolen, 186 pages
The unicorns have been eating the golden apples at Cranford Abbey
as long as anyone can remember. The current abbot is determined to get
rid of them and is willing to try almost anything, except allow women into the
abbey, despite the fact that a maiden's touch is said to calm the
unicorns. When a small boy, James, who is also the duke's son, is sent to
the abbey to learn, he begins to come up with a plan. Of course, he's
only a boy and the abbot may not listen to him but James may be able to prove
that being small and curious can be a benefit. I liked this book and kids
who like fantasy will probably like it also.
