This short book collects a number of papers, sermons, and talks authored by Joseph Ratzinger between 1963 and 1995, all on the subject of the mystery of the Eucharist. For the priest, bishop, and cardinal, as for the pope he would become, the Eucharist is Emmanuel - "God with us" - the paradigmatic conjunction of Jesus Christ and His Church. For Ratzinger, then, the Eucharist can never be a celebration of the community, rather, it is the celebration that makes the community, the liturgy the place and time where the Crucified draws all things to Himself.
