Vacation on Location Midwest: Explore the Sites Where Your Favorite Movies Were Filmed by Joey Green Paperback Book:232 pages
Loved this book. How fun would that be to go to the places where major motion pictures were filmed? It’s always to cool to check out places where something interesting happened to give it a little more meaningful experience and being a film lover myself, yeah, I would enjoy visiting locations where some of my favorite films were made to get that feel of being there as if getting the chance to be in the movie right along side the stars. I am so Jonesing to go see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and experience what it feels like being there ala the films and books at Universal’s Theme Park in Orlando Florida. But this book discusses film locations here in the Midwest – MO first: ‘ Gone Girl,” “Up In the Air”, “Escape from New York” there are loads more films that have been shot here, (White Palace just 3 blocks up the street from here) but, o.k. we will go with those. It tells you what scenes were shot and the exact locations where they were shot and who the star was in the scene. It also includes background info and tasty trivia tidbits throughout. The other states mentioned: Ohio – Can you say “Christmas Story”? How about, “The Deer Hunter?” and “Rain Man”. Illinois – “The Blues Brothers,” (The book doesn’t mention “Dillinger” but I’ll bet folks remember Johnny Depp being there), “the Untouchables,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and the ultimate – “Ground Hog Day”! I had no idea that was shot in Illinois, I thought for sure they would have went with Pennsylvania, “My best Friend’s Wedding”, “Home Alone”. Not an extensive list, but, a good list. The states included here are Kentucky, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Misouri, Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Just a taste of the films mentioned, “Fargo,” “The Breakfast Club,” “The Dark Knight”, “Ferris Buehler’s Day Off”, “In Cold Blood”, “The Fugitive”, “Risky Business”, “Boys Town”, “The Bridges of Madison County,” “Children of the Corn”, “8 Mile”, “Purple Rain”, “The Shawshank Redemption”, “Dances With Wolves”, “Back to School” so many more to boot. Excellent book for film lovers and vacationers wanting to have more fun while on the road. I highly recommend this one.
