The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami 96 pages
The innovative format and the creative illustrations throughout prompted me to explore this small-styled book. After returning his library books, a boy is sent to Room 107 in search of other titles. There he's trapped by a bald old librarian, guarded by a Sheep Man, fed by a voiceless girl, and forced to memorize three books about the Ottoman tax system for insidious purposes. Make no mistake, this is an insidious adult story, regardless of its fun presentation. If you liked Miyazaki’s 2001 animated feature, Spirited Away, then you will appreciate this novelty…but I hated that movie…say no more…
