Dare To Be Kind by Lizzie Velasquez Hardback Book: 192 pages
Lizzie Velasquez has suffered a lot in her life. She is unique, she does her best to stay focused on the positive rather than the negative, she has been hurt by bullies all of her life be they in person, or on the internet and she suffers from a medical condition that doctors could not identify other than doing their best to treat to their best guess her conditions. Lizzie was born with a condition that prevents her from gaining weight so many people suspect she sufferes from extreme anorexia but no that isn’t it, she suffers from a rare congenital disease called Marfanoid-progeroid- lipodystrophy syndrome. She is very outgoing – has her own video blog – she has written this book and before that she starred in a documentary about her life. She also blogs under the name #IAmMoreThan and is contantly in demand as a public speaker. She loves fashion and is fond of how beautiful her hair is, her sweet disposition shows in the gleam in her eyes and the smile she shares with everyone she meets. Lizzie is unique as we all are in our own ways she says. Lizzie is 29 years old, 5’ 2” tall and she weighs 58 pounds. Her eyes are different colors, she usually wears one contact so they match, she endures a lot of pain in her body and is on a first name basis with many world renowned doctors on her team. She says some people have a single file folder on their health in their doctors office, she on the other hand has volumes on all the operations, tests etc. she has been through since birth. In school because of her uniqueness she was harassed by bullies and even beaten up at times but she believes God gave her the body she has because He also gave her a purpose in life to help bullies to overcome their hate by daring to be kind to people who treat her badly and by sharing her message of faith, positivity, hope and by sharing her story of overcoming the tough times she knows from her many friends, fans and family that she is making a difference in many people’s lives. Your heart will go out to this dear young woman who wears a necklace with the word, “BRAVE,” on it everyday to remind herself she is braver than she thinks (there are those times when everyone has tearful moments wishing to be set free of their burdens – she cites Christ in the garden of Gethsemane). A story of encouragement for everyone no matter what you may be going through. Lizzie is a lion-hearted hero and one of God’s special angels put here on earth. God bless her. Good book, amazing story. Everyone should read this she is so brutally honest in the good and bad times of her life. What a resilient soul. Very emotional and very uplifting book. Good one.
