The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, 180 pages
“The struggle of three brothers to stay
together after their parent's death and their quest for identity among the conflicting
values of their adolescent society.” Oddly enough, I’ve never read this before. I think that, despite the parts that date the
book, it’s also very timeless. Teens can
read this today and still understand the differentiation between social groups. The story is short enough that even reluctant
readers could probably enjoy it. This
probably wouldn’t be the first book that came to mind if I was trying to think
of good recommendations, but I wouldn’t avoid it if I thought of it.
