The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 5: Imperial Phase (Part 1), by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie 144 p.
Every ninety years, twelve gods are incarnated as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead.
The fifth trade paperback for Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie’s dark fantasy series has the same beautiful post-pop art as the rest of the series. More than that, plot threads are finally starting to come together after the beautiful but meandering Volume 3: Commercial Suicide and the appropriately named Volume 4: Rising Action. There are still mysteries here, occasionally frustrating ones, but this latest volume gives me hope for a satisfying story to come.
