Mundo Cruel: Stories, by Luis Negron, trans. by Suzanne Jill Levine, 96 pages
In this Lamda Literary Award winning collection of short stories, the setting is Puerto Rico and the storylines vary greatly. From writing a letter to an old lover for money to get his dog stuffed, to committing a series of horrible crimes in order to cover up a suicide, the only unifying theme here is that of queer culture and identity in Puerto Rico. The stories range from amusing to heart-breaking. It's worth a read if you enjoy literary fiction, short stories, or it's the only thing on your e-reader and you are in a doctor's office without wi-fi.
