What The Witch Left by Ruth Chew, 131 pages
When Katy’s friend Louise came over to play she started asking Katy about the chest of drawers in her room, especially the bottom drawer, which was locked. Katy explained that her mother kept things in the drawers and didn’t want Katy to play in them. The bottom drawer, however, had things in it that belonged to Katy’s Aunt Martha. Katy knew where her mother kept the key and the two girls found several items that seemed to be an odd collection of junk: and old mirror, a bathrobe, red boots, and flesh colored gloves, for example. They soon discovered that this odd assortment of things might be more than they seem and have some interesting adventures, including a magical trip to Mexico! This is a short book that will probably appeal to reluctant readers, especially kids who like magic and fantasy.
