In the Body of the World, by Eve Ensler, 240 pages
This was a very emotionally raw memoir of surviving cancer. But since it was written by Eve Ensler, it means even more. Ensler (of Vagina Monologues fame) has pretty much dedicated her life and everything she's written to the topic of women and their bodies. Strength, ownership and survival have always been topics in her work. But when she finds out that it is her own uterus that is basically "betraying" her (uterine cancer), she has to temporarily focus on her own body and survival. Like I said- very raw and very graphic, but there's not a whole lot that's pretty about cancer. Given an option, I would recommend listening to the audio- it's narrated by Ensler, and she reads everything like a performance piece.
