This has been my favorite of Hiaasen’s books for kids so
far. Malley, a 14 year old girl, runs
away from home with a guy she met online.
Her cousin, Richard, is worried about her and when Malley finally starts
contacting him he just gets more worried.
With the help of the former governor of Florida, now known as Skink to
the few people who know he’s even alive, Richard sets out on a trip to find
Malley and bring her home. Richard
believes that by this time Malley is being held against her will. Despite many dangerous snags, such as Skink
having his foot crushed by a truck while trying to rescue a baby skink, the
pair persevere through all of the dangers they encounter. A really fun adventure story with just enough
fear factor, a lot of kids will enjoy this book.
