The Thing about December

The thing about December / Donal Ryan.207 Pages  Johnsey Cunliffe is mildly retarded and has gone through life largely protected by his parents.  When his father and then his mother die, he is trying to navigate his life without really understanding what is happening.  Ugly things happen to Johnsey, especially once the farm he inherited becomes valuable in a land struggle.  Johnsey is unable to determine who to trust and every time he puts his faith in someone, is betrayed.
The author's voice for Johnsey is wonderful and it makes reading the book that much harder because of the things that are occurring.
