Way of the Warrior by Chris Bradford, 359 pages
Twelve year old Jack Fletcher is shipwrecked on the coast of Japan his father and the ships crew have all been killed by ninjas. In Jack's possession is his father's rutter, a book containing navigational charts, and the cause of the attack. Left for dead Jack is rescued by the master swordsman Masamoto Takeshi who adopts the English Boy as his son. Under Masamoto's care Jack begins the long and difficult physical and psychological training to
become a samurai. Life at Samurai school however is difficult for
Jack who is bullied and treated as an outcast, as he tries to prove himself ready for the challenges that lie in his future.
This is the first book of Bradford's Young Samurai series, as well as his first book. After having several of the books in this series come across my desk I decided to go ahead and start reading the series. I picked this series expecting it to be a fairly fast paced action and adventure story, which it is, but it also offers a peek into parts of Japanese culture. Overall I think anyone who enjoys young adult adventures series will probably enjoy these, and that this series is worth reading.
