The Eye Of Zoltar by Jasper Fforde, 405 pages
The third book in the Chronicles Of Kazam has Jennifer
Strange minding the princess of Kazam, who is currently in the body of a palace
orphan. The queen decided that the
princess needed to get some real world experience and stop being such a
brat. Unfortunately, this means that the
princess has to come with Jennifer and Perkins on an incredibly dangerous
mission into the Cambrian Empire. There,
they hope to find out if the Eye of Zoltar really exists and possibly find it
to give to the Mighty Shandar in exchange for not killing the last two
dragons. Since Jennifer and her house of
magicians are responsible for the two dragons being alive, Shandar has agreed
to this deal, even though he was under contract to kill all of the dragons. They also need to negotiate for the release
of the Once Magnificent Boo, who has been taken hostage in the Cambrian
Empire. This was a fun adventure story
that is light-hearted and funny enough
that you almost don’t mind that people end up dead. Any of Fforde’s fans and teens who like fantasy
and odd humor will enjoy the series.
