Tell Me by Joan Bauer, 260 pages
Anna is going to visit her grandmother while her parents try
to work out their differences. Although
Anna is sad to be away from home where she could be acting as a cranberry all
summer, and is worried that her parents might be getting a divorce, she is glad
to be visiting her grandmother, especially since the Flower Festival is coming
up. Anna is looking forward to working
on the floats and even has a chance to pursue her acting by being a petunia to
advertise the festival. However, Anna
sees a girl that looks like she’s in trouble.
Anna doesn’t know exactly what’s wrong, but the girl clearly doesn’t
want to be with the two people who have her in a van. Anna is determined to help but when the local
police don’t seem to care, Anna has to devise other plans to try and aid the
girl she saw. Luckily, Anna has made
some friends who may be able to assist.
This is a kind of simplistic story but it’s still pretty good. Give this to kids who like realistic fiction
with a little bit of humor and adventure.
