Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
400 Pages
In this world there are multiple Londons which the Traveller Kell distinguishes by color identifying the various levels of magic in each world. There is Grey London which has almost no magic, Red London where magic is plentiful but balanced, White London in which is ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne--a place where people fight to control magic, and the magic fights back and Black London, closed to all where magic has taken over. Only travellers can go between the worlds and there are only 2 travellers left, Kell and Holland. When Kell accidently comes across a talisman of Black London he is set upon in White London. Injured he flees to Grey London and meets Delilah Bard, a cut purse who ends up saving him. The two partner up to find a way to destroy the black talisman before it and people seeking power get them.
While it sounds a little confusing with all the different Londons, you quickly adapt and get to know interesting characters in an interesting world. I would recommend to fantasy lovers.
