Shadow And Bone by
Leigh Bardugo, 356 pages
Alina is just an ordinary girl, a mapmaker in the King’s
army. Her best friend, Mal, is the only
person she can count on. They’ve been
friends since they were children and Mal is the best tracker in the army. During a volcra attack, Mal and Alina are
nearly killed until a bright light appears, driving off the volcra and saving
them both. Everyone says that Alina is
responsible for the light, but she was tested as a child and showed no signs of
powers, so how can she be a Grisha now?
They say that she can be the one to destroy the Shadow Fold, the
blackness that separates their country and is the home of the volcra. The Fold was created by a Grisha long ago and
Alina finds it hard to believe that she could possibly be the one to destroy
it. This is the beginning of a new
fantasy series. I really liked it and
think that a lot of teens would too.
