The Lord Of Opium by Nancy Farmer, 411 pages
El Patrón is dead and Matt, who used to be just a clone, is
now the new Lord of Opium. He controls
the entire opium producing business in the world and has thousands of eejits to
work it. Matt never wanted all of this
and the more he learns about the entire business, the less he wants it. Matt’s plan is to find a way to cure the
eejits and then to farm anything but opium.
He is determined to find a better way to live and to bring his friends,
especially María to at least visit him.
Matt has to tread carefully. He
has many enemies who will not be happy to have the opium trade come to an end
and many people who don’t believe that a fourteen year old boy can control the
estate. If Matt isn’t careful, he could lose everything. This is a great sequel to The House Of The
Scorpion and teens who like science fiction, adventure or suspense would
probably enjoy these books.
