Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu 108 pages
A classic Victorian vampire novella, which influenced Bram Stoker's later treatment of the vampire mythos in Dracula.
As a precursor to Dracula, this book was a fascinating read. I can see clear influences of Dracula, and yet it still remained a new work, to me, that wasn't too exposed by Dracula foe me to enjoy it in its own right.
I liked the writing style, though there were points where the dating of it made it tricky to relate to, quite. I thought the lesbian undertones were clearly there and the author did not make too much comment on it one way or another, so it didn't really add to the story very much.
