The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr, 304 pages
Lucy was a highly gifted piano player at a very young age. She was winning competitions and awards competing against adults before she was a teenager. Her brother, who is ten now, is just as gifted as she was. But a few months ago, Lucy gave it all up. She walked out in the middle of a competition. When her family found her, her grandfather made it clear that he would not fund anymore of her lessons or support her playing in any way. Lucy was fine with that but now, at sixteen, she’s met her brother’s new piano instructor. He’s young, cute, and kind, and wants to help her find her way back to playing again. This was a mostly quiet, coming-of-age story that a lot of teen girls would probably like.
