Clock Dance by Anne Tyler 292 pages
Willa can count on one hand the most defining moments of her life and how at each of these moments, she ended up on a path laid out for her by others. So when she receives a phone call from a stranger telling her that her son's ex-girlfriend has been shot and needs her help, she drops everything and flies across the country to help. It's completely unlike her and her husband, while understanding at first, starts to become frustrated as Willa decides to stay and look after this women and her nine year-old daughter. Willa's in completely uncharted territory, but she's finding that there is pleasure to be had in simple, and completely unexpected, things.
I enjoyed this book and found it to be a pretty quick read, mostly because I liked it (and fighting a bout of bronchitis, had time on my hand to sit quietly and read). Tyler usually writes stories with characters that I find interesting and compelling and this book was no exception. Not earthshaking, but a good, solid read.
