My Mom Is a Dragon and My Dad Is a Boar by Tricia Morrissey Hardback Book: 32 pages
Fun introduction to the 12 Chinese Astrology Signs. In Chinese astrology a sign lasts a year not just roughly a month as the astrological/zodiac signs we Americans are familiar with. The story goes that Buddha invited all of the animals in the world to come visit him but to hurry because he would make the first 12 to arrive the astrology signs, one for each year for 12 years. There are stories included telling how each of the 12 signs managed to get to Buddha and how their journey showed the characteristics of each animal whether the dragon who has a hasty temper and shrewd confidence or the horse who follows no rules, the gentle and kind sheep whose friends always take care of him, the fearless tiger who is clever and full of laughter as well as courageous, powerful and always prowling. Really good information here to explore the signs and their attributes and apply them to all the people you know whose birth year falls under each of the signs. Beautiful paper cut-outs to illustrate, too. Really good introduction to Chinese astrology. Excellent book.
