Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie
409 Pages
Written by local author Ann Leckie, Ancillary Justice is the first of a series in which Breq, a remnant of the starship Justice of Toren is seeking revenge for the destruction of the rest of her. To understand this further, the Starship is a sentient entity which controls the minds of several captured humans. Leckie has attempted to capture how a mind used to several different perspectives and information flows would process information differently than we do and what would happen if that process was disrupted. The book has Breq, making her way back to the leader of the Radch empire who is currently in a battle with her cloned selves.
You have to admire the way Leckie has created not only a new world, but a new point of view. It does however get confusing, especially since Breq is really bad at assigning the correct genders to others. Thus several times I had to reread a section to figure out what was going on.
