Catch You Later, Traitor by Avi, 296 pages
When Pete’s teacher tells the class that Pete’s dad is a
communist and a traitor, Pete is confused and angry. He knows that his dad loves America. When he asks his dad about it, he admits that
when he was a teenager he joined the Communist party, but realized that it was
a mistake. Now, Pete has an FBI agent
following him around, trying to find out what he knows about his dad, his dad
is worried about losing his job and going to jail, and no one in Pete’s class
will talk to him anymore. Pete is
certain that his dad hasn’t told him the whole story and he is determined to
find out the rest, just like the detectives in the stories that he loves. This is a really good realistic historical
story that has some elements of adventure and mystery to it as well. A lot of kids would probably like it.
