Pacific Fire by Greg Ban Eekhout
332 Pages
Sam is a golem created by the late Hierach of Southern California who has all the latent power inside him. When Daniel Blackland destoyed the Hierarch, he brought Sam along and has been protecting him for years now while there is a power struggle in the political vacuum left by the Hierarch's death. In the second book of the series, Daniel and Sam are called upon to prevent the creation of a dangerous magical creature that could upset the delicate balance of power.
Not a bad book, but a little uninteresting. I didn't care much for the character of Sam but enjoyed the world first created in Eekhout's California Bones.
