Dead In The Water by Chris Lynch, 188 pages
This is the second book in the World War II series. Hank is pretty much a sure thing to play
professional baseball but he can’t think about that until the War is over. He enlists in the Navy while his brother,
Theo, enlists in the Army Air Corps. At
first, training is interesting to Hank but he still finds downtime to relax by
playing catch with the other guys, even sometimes playing a pick up game. The best player by far is and African
American named Bradford. Becoming
friends with Bradford gives Hank his first taste of the inequalities in the
United States. Bradford isn’t allowed to
be on some of the beaches in Hawaii.
Still, life isn’t too bad until hank gets a taste of what war is really
all about. Teens that like historical
fiction, especially war stories, will enjoy this series.
