Orange Crush by Tim Dorsey, 292 pages
Republican governor Marlon Conrad has the upcoming gubernatorial race in the bag, he has a wealthy father, well connected friends, and plenty of powerful people willing to back him for a favor or two. His opponent is Democrat Gomer Tatum who's only stand is that he is for frying murderers with the electric chair. When Conrad's reserve unit is called up for a peace keeping detail in the Balkans things drastically change. What he witnesses over there leads him to turning against his backers, and start standing up for the people, which he does by ditching his security detail and going on a cross state trip to talk about actual issues and reform. Accompanying him on this trip are his amnesiac speechwriter as well as his chief of
staff who turns catatonic in the presence of minorities. Together they are followed by a trail of bodies being left by would be assassins and A murderer affectionately dubbed "the Bumper Sticker Killer".
Dorsey continues his Serge Storms series by jumping ahead into what could be just about anywhere in the series. After reading this readers will have plenty of questions some of which are answered in this book, others that are left until the next couple books. If Dorsey's stories weren't already a little disjointed I would be more upset about him skipping things, but since he always ties things up I think it just makes the series feel more like one long continues story.
