The Accident by Chris Pavone
385 Pages
A cross between a spy thriller and literary who-done-it. A manuscript is submitted anonymously to Isabel Reed, a literary agent. After she reads it she realizes that it would be an explosive revelation on a major media mogul. She quickly calls her assistant to make sure that the assistant hasn't shared the manuscript with anyone else and starts to line up someone to publish it. The only problem is the assistant not only made a copy for herself and read it but she shared information with several others in the publishing business. When she turns up dead, Isabel quickly realizes that her life is in danger and takes evasive measures.
At the same time we visit with the author of the manuscript who is in hiding in Europe and see how members of the CIA are tracking the author and the manuscript to prevent information from leaking that would embrasse the government. With multiple twists and turns we see the course of the manuscript and cover up with flashbacks hinting on the contents of the book and how it came into existence. Not until the end of the book is the reader able to guess who is really behind the manuscript and the secret contained within it.
