The book opens with reporter Rachel  attending a police press conference announcing the disappearance of a woman in Brighton.  Rachel is stunned to realize that the missing woman is Clara, her former best friend from childhood.  She fails to tell the police that she knows the woman and as the book progresses she slowly becomes the number one suspect in the disappearance of not only Clara but also Rachel's boyfriend.


With multiple twists and turns the book was one of the many Gone Girl wannabes of the summer.  I think about halfway in you realize the plot (although I cheated and looked at the end).  It's a diverting read.
